Barack Obama is a rock star, or so it seems. When he visited Key Arena last Friday, it filled up so fast that some people had to wait outside including my high school son who ditched classes to be there. I have a friend on facebook who claims to have a crush on Mr. Obama. Since when did politics become so "pop culturish"? (This is another, more famous crush on Obama)
In reading "Audacity of Hope", Mr. Obama outlines an enthusiastic thesis for bipartisan cooperation and work for the American people and American justice. Yet, I find very little difference between his platform and that of Hiliary Clinton.
My conclusion is that Mr. Obama represents CHANGE, not necessarily of political ideas, but CHANGE from the Washington status quo that is exciting his followers. Do Americans really want another four or eight years of Clintons in the white house, after having endured 12 years of Bush/Bush leadership? Change can be exciting. It holds out the hope that things may be different. For others, however, change is intimidating and uncomfortable. How those two opposing perspectives on change play out will be VERY interesting, should Mr. Obama become the nominee for the Democrats. In Washington state, Mr. Obama won easily.
